Asset Specialists, Inc. was founded in 1989 by Tom Gibson with a deceptively simple thesis: the best commercial real estate firm a lender, owner, or investor can hire is one that thinks like an owner itself.
The firm's earliest engagements were "Asset Assistance" mandates — full-service workouts for national and regional lenders sitting on portfolios of defaulted loans and foreclosed commercial properties. That work demanded brokerage instincts, hands-on management capability, and capital judgment all at once. Three and a half decades later, those same disciplines define the firm.
Today Asset Specialists represents landlords and tenants across South Florida, manages 425,000+ square feet of office, flex, industrial, and medical assets, and partners with select investors on opportunistic acquisitions. Our team has more than 100 combined years of commercial real estate experience — and we still pick up the phone ourselves.

Tom founded Asset Specialists in 1989 to give national and regional lenders a full-service 'Asset Assistance' program for their portfolios of defaulted loans and foreclosed commercial properties. Three and a half decades later, that same principal-investor mindset informs every brokerage, development, and management engagement the firm takes on.
Cindy Schaefer
Vice President & CFO
Cindy oversees the firm's financial operations and is responsible for the financial reporting, accounting, and asset-level performance tracking that keeps every managed property auditable and every owner informed.

Michael manages day-to-day operations across the firm's 425,000+ SF portfolio of office, flex, industrial, and medical properties — coordinating tenant relations, vendor performance, and capital projects from Riviera Beach to Port St. Lucie.
